Thirty years ago — 1990

A $40 million natural gas-fired electric steam co-generation plant to serve at least two industries in the Dunkirk area could be in operation by early 1992. The Dunkirk Co- Generation Co. is owned by Consolidated Power Co. of Norwalk, Conn. The plant, to be located on a five-acre site in the North County Industrial Park in the Town of Sheridan, would have a staff of 13 to 15 people.

Forty years ago — 1980

Three students at Silver Creek Central School placed in the recent Chautauqua County Typing Contest held at Jamestown Business College. They are: Linda Woodward, a junior and winner of the Novice Electric category; Kathleen Cross, a junior and winner of the Novice Manual category; and Dawn Cross, winner of the Advanced Electric category.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Tech Sgt. John W. Bienko, son of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Bienko, 429 Bucknor St., Dunkirk has been nominated by the 449th Bomb Wing for the Air Force Association’s Outstanding Airman Award.
