Thirty years ago — 1990

More than 100 familiar Forestville names are featured in a recently published book. the late Ernest Donahue of Hanford Bay, Silver Creek, completed the final pages of “Forestville Horse and Buggy Days,” just days before he died. The book provides a “thumbnail sketch” of the village. It consists of nearly 50 pages which includes the author’s memories of Forestville residents from 1900 to 1918. The book is available in a limited supply of 300 copies at various Forestville businesses.

Forty years ago — 1980

The Chautauqua County Pomona Grange, the nation’s oldest family fraternity, recently celebrated its 112th anniversary with an open house at Fredonia Grange No. 1. “National Grange Week” was celebrated with an exhibition at the Chautauqua Mall in Lakewood.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Debbie Welch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Welch, 121 Main St., Silver Creek has been named Student of the Week. She is a senior at Silver Creek Central School.
