Thirty years ago — 1990

A committee of seven Town of Cheektowaga residents that installed a veterans monument in the town park are having to defend themselves to other veterans who are angry that the only names on the monument are those of the seven committee members. The seven residents are being ridiculed and getting anonymous phone calls for the placement of their names in huge letters on a monument which was built with a $56,000 advance from the town board. “Self-praise stinks!,” said one angry businessman and veteran, who is pushing the board to have the names either blotted out or removed.

Forty years ago — 1980

Valedictorian at Forestville High School is Adele Turzillo. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Eagan of King Road Forestville plans to major in pre-med at Cornell University. Anne Miller, salutatorian, will attend SUNY Fredonia for music education or therapy. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Miller of South Roberts Road, Forestville.

Fifty years ago — 1970

In an unprecedented move, the Dunkirk Common Council has named three new lieutenants for the city’s police force. They are Leonard Drozdziel, Norman Bielaszka and Donald Fafinski.
