Thirty years ago — 1990
Wheelchair athletes Ken Parks of Dunkirk and Dennis Delcamp of Brocton recently took first-place honors in the Tri-State Powerlifting Games in Edison, N.J. Parks broke his national record midheavyweight class with a 325-pound lift, besting his old mark by five pounds. Delcamp, who was competing in his first meet, won top honors in the light-heavyweight division with a lift of 180 pounds.
Forty years ago — 1980
Mayville’s park — often called “the village park” even though it actually belongs to the county — has no official name. To remedy that, and as part of this county seat’s sesquicentennial program, a contest open to all county residents is being held to name the park. It is located just south of the Courthouse at the intersection of Routes 17 and 394.
Fifty years ago — 1970
Navy Fireman Stanley G. Skrzypek, 20, and Lt. Paul J. Skrzypek, 26, are currently stationed together in Atsugi, Japan. They are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Skrzypek of Wright Park Drive, Dunkirk.
