Retrospective

Thirty years ago – 1990

The Gowanda Moose Club has donated $1,000 to the North Haven Therapeutic Riding Center Inc. in Gowanda. With the donation, the club has made it possible for more than 115 handicapped individuals to make horseback riding a part of their lives.

Forty years ago – 1980

The OBSERVER has taken a First Place Award in the New York State Publishers Association advertising competition for daily newspapers in the full page black and white category. First place was awarded for a unique advertisement run by Gardinier-Colletti Memorial Home on March 21, 1980 entitled “Answers to a Child’s Questions About Death.”

Fifty years ago – 1970

Philip J. Riedesel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Riedesel of Belson Road, Ripley, is the Student of the Week. He is a senior at Westfield Academy and Central School.
