Retrospective

Thirty years ago – 1990

Fredonia High School’s valedictorian is Jeanne Wilcox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Wilcox of Route 60, Fredonia. Jeanne plans to attend Cornell University in the fall. Salutatorian Eric Weaver plans to attend Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester where he intends to major in religion and philosophy and prepare for ordination.

Forty years ago – 1980

Student of the Week from Westfield Academy and Central School is Christopher Portman, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Portman of East Main Road, Westfield. Christopher has been named valedictorian of his senior class and is the recipient of a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Qualification Test. He plans to attend Notre Dame University to pursue a career in medicine.

Fifty years ago — 1970

An antique fire truck was recently purchased by Leo Duliba, 414 Columbus St., Dunkirk and for the past few months, several Dunkirk residents have worked refurbishing the 1936 apparatus. Mr. Duliba has hopes of forming a Western New York Chapter of the SPAAMFAA (Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus in America).
