Thirty years ago — 1990

The search for a young bear cub that has been wandering around the village of Fredonia continued this morning after it was spotted across from the Aldrich Dairy Store on Route 60 at about 9:30 a.m. The black bear was first spotted at about 3:15 p.m. yesterday near Pine and Chestnut streets and then near Water and Liberty streets. Most witnesses estimated the bear weighed about 80 pounds, but others reported a bear that weighed about 300 pounds. Whether more than one bear is roaming around is unknown.

Forty years ago — 1980

Ordained a Maryknoll priest 25 years ago on June 11, the Rev. Elias J. Tederous celebrated the anniversary recently with a Sunday afternoon Mass and reception at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Edmund Tederous, 888 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Father Elias was a missionary on the Island of Hawaii for 23 years.

Fifty years ago — 1970

The appointment of the Rev. P. Burdette Howe as pastor of the Dunkirk United Methodist Church has been announced.
