Retrospective

Thirty years ago — 1990

Chautauqua Day Care Inc. is among the first day care programs in the United States to be accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. The Academy recognizes programs which meet national standards of quality in early childhood programs. Chautauqua Day Care’s pre-school program, located in Thompson Hall at SUNY Fredonia, serves 45 children from 2-5 years of age under the direction of Suzanne McClain.

Forty years ago — 1980

A trip to the Gowanda Country Club “Open Day” was well worth the effort for a trio of Shorewood Country Club women golfers. Janet Reiner came home with a new pair of golf shoes and a set of head covers. Ann Ardillo tucked a new 7 wood into her golf bag; and Barbara Putnam now has an extra dozen golf balls to use this season.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Dolores Gould of Bemus Point won first place in the “Beef Cook-Out” contest sponsored by the Chautauqua County Cowbelles. Her recipe was for a Chinese Pepper Steak dish.
