Thirty years ago — 1990

City of Dunkirk Parks employees are hard at work these days spreading wood chips on the Conrail berm along Third Street. The chips are from branches and brush picked up over the last several months. The idea is to spruce up the embankment while at the same time providing the city with a place for the wood chips. Prisoners from Lakeview Correctional Facility are being used to cut down weeds on the berm before the wood chips are spread.

Forty years ago — 1980

A large attendance was present to witness the dedication of the chapter room in the Masonic Temple to the purpose of Fredonia Chapter 430, Order of the Eastern Star. The ceremony was held in the Forest Lodge 166 F & AM Temple, 321 East Main St., Fredonia. The dedication ceremony was directed by Mildred F. Lyons, most worthy grand matron of the Order of the Eastern Star of the State of New York and William F. Hall, most worthy grand patron.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Curtis Place residents recently held their fifth annual block soiree and the featured attraction was a donkey pinata made by Mrs. Joseph Galindo. The candyfilled art piece was broken by Kurt Maytum.
