Thirty years ago — 1990

Scott Fricker, son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Fricker of Van Buren Bay, was one of 13 gold award recipients at the annual Art Directors/Communicators of Buffalo dinner and awards show. He received his gold medal award for his poster, program and T-shirt design for the North American New Music Festival. Mr. Fricker is a freelance artist employed by the University of Buffalo.

Forty years ago — 1980

Lynn Marie Kosierb will represent Murray Hose Co. 4 at the Stockton Gala Days this month. This is the 20th consecutive year that Murray Hose has sponsored the queen contest. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Kosierb, 772 Park Ave., Dunkirk, Lynn is a 1980 graduate of Dunkirk High School. The new queen received a tiara and flowers. Her father has been a member of Hose 4 for 30 years.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Preparations for the Aug. 20 opening day of Fredonia’s second annual Farm Festival are nearing completion. Among those involved are Sandra Albano, Pauline Galofaro, Helen Woods, Leonard Aldrich, Charles Fryer, Mayor Anthony Leone, Mrs. Leone, Thomas Brown and William Kelly.
