Thirty years ago — 1990

It is a special time for members of the Good Hope Baptist Church in Dunkirk as members celebrate the 45th anniversary of its founding as well at the completion of the new church building. Founded on Dec. 9, 1945, the church’s new sanctuary is at 215 Eagle St. The current pastor is the Rev. Rueben Starks of Erie, who has led the congregation since July 1984.

Forty years ago — 1980

Brian Boccolucci of Brainard Road, Fredonia was the first place trophy winner at the June 29 Niagara Falls BMX bicycle race track. Brian qualified in the 14-16-yearold age group in the weekly race.

Fifty years ago — 1970

The ice cream cone recently turned 66 years old, or so say some vendors on Coney Island, where legend has it the famous treat had its start July 4, 1904.
