Thirty years ago — 1990

Rodney and Joan Houck of Fredonia joined more than 1,500 other Presbyterians recently on the campus of American University in Washington, D.C., for a national peacemaking conference entitled “Peacemaking 2000: Growing Toward the Vision.” The conference was sponsored by the 3-million member Presbyterian Church (USA) Peacemaking Program.

Forty years ago — 1980

The recently released list of “Outstanding Young Men of America” for 1980 includes John Alan Krout and David Edward Wilensky, both of Dunkirk, and Michael Joseph Strada, formerly of Fredonia. This program, which is endorsed by the United States Jaycees, recognizes the achievements and abilities of men between the ages of 21 and 36.

Fifty years ago — 1970

A new sign has been erected on the grounds of the St. Joseph School for Exceptional Children, Route 60, in memory of Joseph Henry Sr., former Pomfret Highway superintendent.
