Spaces for the sale of locally-grown produce and products by any interested agribusiness persons are available at Gateway Markets, a new farmers’ market on Bennett Road (Route 60) in Dunkirk that opened July 5. It is located on the Woodbury Vineyards.

Forty years ago — 1980

City officials have learned the original U.S census count for the city was in error. The new count adds 1,190 residents to Dunkirk’s population, bringing it to 15,045. It also shows some 450 more housing units than were mentioned in the initial release. Even with a population of 15,045, Dunkirk still has its lowest official population since the 1900 census, which showed the city with 11,616.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Workmen at the high-rise apartment building on North Main Street in Dunkirk have finished construction of the frame for the ninth floor of the 11-story structure.
