Longtime Dunkirk Little League President Ed “Cherry” Wisniewski is pictured accepting a plaque from District 2 Little League Administrator Ben Cerrie in Fredonia recently. Wisniewski was named Volunteer of the Year.

Forty years ago — 1980

Bishop Turner High School of Buffalo has a new varsity basketball coach. The Rev. James Campbell, principal, and Athletic Director Bob Muscato announced jointly that Mike Tramuta of Dunkirk has been named to succeed Muscato as basketball mentor. Tramuta is a veteran of the hardwood, coaching for 15 years on the college and high school level. For Muscato, the 1980-1981 basketball season will mark the first time in 17 years he has not ridden the bench as a head coach.

A history of Brooks Locomotive Company, written by the Very Rev. Leslie F. Chard, city of Dunkirk historian, appears in the August issue of “Railroad,” a nationally distributed magazine for railroad buffs
