Thirty years ago — 1990

Marcy Jo Kubera, 15, of Dunkirk was chosen in a chain-wide search for recognition in the Hills Department Store “Back to Schools” insert that recently appeared in the OBSERVER. A Dunkirk High school student, Marcy was selected based on a submitted photo and resume. The daughter of Joseph and Barbara Kubera, she received a $50 savings bond.

Forty years ago — 1980

The new horse barn at the Chautauqua County Fair was dedicated recently and named in honor of director August “Gus” Peterson of Dunkirk. Gus is in charge of the harness racing and other horse activities at the County Fair.

Fifty years ago — 1970

The Plague, the winning group in the County Fair Battle of the Bands (Jayceesponsored) has as members: Scott McClenathan, Tom Kusiowski, Kevin Fuller, Peter Howard and Doug VanDette.
