Thirty years ago — 1990
Preliminary plans for Cherry Creek Woodcraft Inc. of Cherry Creek to construct a new facility in Brocton have been called off, with the company now looking at a South Dayton site in Cattaraugus County for its expansion program. Plans had called for Woodcraft to construct a new facility on a 10-acre site on Pullman Street in Brocton. However, Woodcraft is now considering a 9-acre site in the village of South Dayton, less than eight miles from the company’s current facility.
Forty years ago — 1980
The wartime experiences of a Revolutionary War veteran buried in Forestville is the first entry in a publication entitled, “The Revolution Remembered — Eyewitness Accounts of the War for Independence.” The work is edited by John C. Dann, who discovered the background of Jonathan Brigham while studying depositions filed by veterans for pension benefits.
Fifty years ago — 1970
Three area youths recently completed the necessary tests and were granted their novice radio-ham operator’s licenses: Ronald Szot of Dunkirk, James Stoll of Silver Creek and Larry Baldwin of Silver Creek.
