Thirty years ago — 1990

The Ripley Improvement Association recently welcomed three new businesses: Kellie’s Sugar and Spice, a restaurant owned by Kellie and Roger Troyer, is located on Shortman Road. Westlake Enterprises is a miniature golf course and bait shop owned by Craig and Tracie Kalkhof. Red Oak Farm Market is located on West Main Street. The market is owned by Daniel Scriven.

Forty years ago — 1980

An open house and dedication program is planned by the Jamestown 76’ers Association for Better Living Inc. to dedicate the new “Charlotte Villa” at the elderly housing project in Sinclairville. The project is nearing completion and tenants are prepared for occupancy beginning this month.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Mark Hallenbeck of Dunkirk won the Class A championship in competition at Shorewood Country Club. Bob Steele placed second; James Poweski, third; and Dave Orth, fourth.
