Thirty years ago — 1990

The Fredonia Central School District will be getting a new football scoreboard, thanks to a local fraternal organization. The Dunkirk Moose Lodge 89 has offered to purchase the new 12-foot-long solid-state scoreboard at an undisclosed amount and it should be installed in time for the beginning of the school year.

Forty years ago — 1980

The Beach Club I in Dunkirk held the official groundbreaking today for its second expansion in 2 1/2 years of operation. According to owner Randy Goss, a paviliontype porch is being constructed that will let people have the use of the outdoors. The Beach Club also will be selling hot food out of a newly-built kitchen. The entire project will cover 2,000 square feet.

Fifty years ago — 1970

A young Fredonia boy was bitten by a woodchuck this afternoon. William Castleberry, 155 Berry St., was chasing the animal through the field. When he caught it, the animal bit his hand. The family is awaiting the results of rabies tests on the woodchuck.
