Retrospective

Thirty years ago — 1989

Fredonia High School graduate Jack Hesslink is retiring after 34 years as athletic director and physical education teacher in the Clarence Central School District. While at Fredonia, Mr. Hesslink helped organize and participated on the school’s first cross-country team. He was a sprinter on Fredonia’s first post-World War II track team, which won the Class B sectional championship.

Forty years ago — 1979

Postmaster Clyde Van Rennselaer expressed delight with the new beautiful postal facility which went into service July 30. It is larger than the former post office and has air conditioning, central heating, fluorescent lighting and is in a convenient location directly opposite the Village Mall. This structure replaces the one lost in a fire in June 1977.

Fifty years ago — 1969

“Divided We Stand” is the slogan to be used on the new town of Dunkirk signs. The signs will also include a map showing the division of the town by the city of Dunkirk.
