Thirty years ago — 1990

The Chautauqua-Allegheny Cookbook was recently published by the Chautauqua County Vacationlands Association. In addition to recipes from residents of Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties, the book includes a special guest section containing favorites of congressional and state representatives of the area and other state officials. The book was edited by Joanne Schweik of Fredonia.

Forty years ago — 1980

Calendar Girl for the Month of August is Lisa Lyn Kelley, who will be a senior at Dunkirk High School. She is ranked in the top 10 percent of her class, participates in a variety of sports, including track, and is a writer for the school newspaper and copy editor of the yearbook. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred E. Kelley of 12 West Fifth St., Dunkirk, Lisa plans to pursue careers in engineering and ministry.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Mike Phipps, a number one draft pick for the Cleveland Browns, is expected to start at quarterback for the Browns’ first exhibition game against the Los Angeles Rams.
