Thirty years ago — 1990

Mac McCoy, chairman of the Fredonia Fire Department Fire Prevention Committee, announced that the White Inn of Fredonia has been selected as the 1990 “Fire Prevention Business-of-the-Year.” Each year a business is honored which practices fire safety and is a fine example for all of the business community. The White Inn is an outstanding example, according to McCoy.

Forty years ago — 1980

Just Between Us … Recently a Fredonia woman baked and decorated a lovely tiered cake for a relative’s wedding. Neighbors and friends admired the confection–and so did her cat who, the night before the wedding, got up close for a better look and (you guessed it) knocked it over. Needless to say, the woman (with help from her husband) worked into the wee hours of the morning to replace the cake and have it ready for the wedding reception the following day.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Desk Lt. Theodore Schmitz has retired from the city of Dunkirk’s police department after nearly 29 years of service.

The Student Association of the State University, aimed at providing 280,000 students with a voice in New York State, has been formed in New York City and Albany.
