Thirty years ago — 1990

Construction of the Reed Library addition at Fredonia State University College is still ahead of schedule despite a crane accident last week at the project site. The accident, which occurred when a boom crumpled under the four-ton weight of one of the 21-foot-by-4-foot curved pre-cast slabs, was by no means devastating to the project.

Forty years ago — 1980

Bert Parks will still be seen by some viewers of tonight’s Miss America Pageant. The man who was fired after singing “There She Is” for 25 years will sing 30-second local station coffee commercials for Chock Full O’Nuts coffee. He will wear a tuxedo as he did for previous pageants and will say, “For years, I brought you heavenly young ladies. I now bring you heavenly coffee.” Then he will sing the jingle.

Fifty years ago — 1970

David Civilette, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Civilette of Lincoln Avenue, Dunkirk has left to begin his second year in the School of Law and Jurisprudence at the University of Buffalo. During the summer, he was associated with the city court judges in Buffalo.
