Thirty years ago — 1990

The Barker Common Fountain, located in the west Barker Common park and badly damaged in the early morning of Aug. 30 is in need of major repair. According to experts, the cost will run high to repair the 90-year-old fountain which was donated to the village by Charles A. Mark, a resident, and installed at a cost of more than $1,000.

Forty years ago — 1980

The Village of Westfield has received its first ever royalty payment following the successful completion of drilling for natural gas on villageowned land. Charlebois, who has brought in three wells on the property so far, presented a check for $2,300 to the Westfield Board of Public Utilities.

Fifty years ago — 1970

William Walters is a new teacher in the Dunkirk public school system. Mr. Walters, a Dunkirk High School graduate, holds degrees from the University of Rochester and Bowling Green State University. He will teach social studies at Dunkirk High School.
