Thirty years ago — 1990
Connie Miller Bartlett of Sheridan won a $500 gift certificate from Holliday Jewelers, 35 E. Main St., Fredonia as the winner of the oldest sales receipt contest. Connie brought in a sales receipt for her wedding ring dated Aug. 18, 1955. Howard Holliday purchased the jewelry store on July 1, 1955 and operated it until his death in September 1983. Current owner Marlene Holliday continues the firm’s 35-year tradition of quality and service.
Forty years ago — 1980
Sears Roebuck and Co. paid special recognition to the employees and management of Dunkirk Radiator Corp. for the excellence of merchandise supplied to Sears during the past year. Joseph A. Gonzalez, assistant buyer, presented a Sears Symbol of Excellence plaque to Dunkirk Radiator Corp. which manufactures cast iron boilers for the company, at a special ceremony at Shorewood Country Club. Accepting the plaque was Thomas Reed, president of Dunkirk Radiator.
