Thrity years ago — 1990

Dana Best, a former Fredonia resident, finished second recently in the Academic Honor Society National Golf Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Annually, more than 2,000 golfers attempt to qualify at one of the 14 regional qualifier tournaments. Best is a 1979 graduate of Fredonia Central School. He currently resides in Mechanicsville, Pa.

Forty years ago — 1980

George Atkins was presented the sportsmanship award for the lacrosse tournament held this weekend at the Seneca Sports Center in Irving. Atkins, a member of the tournament-winning Six Nation Warriors, was presented the award by Teri Jimerson,who was chosen Seneca Indian Fall Festival Princess.

Fifty years ago — 1970

John R. Vona, DDS, of Silver Creek has been appointed to the advisory board of the Silver Creek office of the Manufacturers and Traders Trust Company.
