Thirty years ago — 1990

There has been a strong outpouring from the Fredonia community since a fountain in west Barker Common was recently damaged to pay for the repairs. Trustee Roger Britz said he has been contacted by several residents and business people offering funds to repair the fountain, which could cost thousands of dollars. The fountain was reportedly damaged by a Grand Island male who tried to climb it. The village has no insurance on the fountains.

Forty years ago — 1980

U.S. Government testing of 1981 model automobiles has revealed that several new 1981 models, including the Chevrolet Chevette, are able for the first time to break the 30 miles per gallon barrier. The 1981 Chevrolets will soon be arriving at local dealerships such as Dengler Chevrolet of Fredonia, Dutch Bertges Chevrolet of Dunkirk and Baumgarden Chevrolet in Gowanda.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Lawrence Przybyla, son of Alfred Przybyla and the late Loretta Przybyla, has been awarded the Eagle Scout award, the highest in Boy Scouting.
