Thirty years ago — 1990

Gov. Mario Cuomo is scheduled to visit the Lakeview Correctional Shock Incarceration Facility near Brocton. After a brief tour of the prison, he will give the opening speech at Lakeview’s inmate graduation ceremony. The governor will depart shortly after the graduation program.

Forty years ago — 1980

Dunkirk’s own Dennis Clemens is now a “world champion”. He won the World’s Demolition Derby Championship at the Islip Speedway in Islip, NY, besting a field of 33 drivers in the contest which will be broadcast later this year by ABC-TV’s Wide World of Sports. It was Clemens fourth trip to the finals.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Everett J. Phillips has been appointed associate professor and chairman of the Department of Health, Physical Education and Athletics at Fredonia State University College.
