Thirty years ago — 1990

Voter apathy is becoming a major problem in the U.S., but Thomas and Susan Zanghi of Dale Drive, Cassadaga are quite the notable exception. On Election Day, the expectant parents were en route to Brooks Memorial Hospital after Mrs. Zanghi went into labor when they made a brief detour to vote at about 10:30 a.m. in the Cassadaga Community Building. Baby Jennifer was born at 1:49 that day.

Forty years ago — 1980

A new S&H Green Stamp Redemption Center has opened at 10 Buffalo St., Gowanda. The site houses the Gowanda Super Duper, an S&H Green Stamp account. The new redemption center occupies 2000-square-feet area of the lower level of the building.

Fifty years ago — 1970

“Joseph Ellicott and the Holland Land Company,” a book written by William Chazanof, professor of history at Fredonia State University College, is scheduled to be released this week.
