Thirty years ago — 1990

The New York State Job Service Division and Unemployment Insurance Division will be combined early next year and will move from their present locations on Lake Shore Drive West to one new building that will be called a Community Service Center. The center will be opened in a building now under construction at 200 Lake Shore Drive West.

Forty years ago — 1980

Contents are being gathered for placement in Dunkirk’s time capsule, which will be sealed and enclosed behind a wall at Dunkirk’s City Hall on Nov. 22. The time capsule, part of Dunkirk’s centennial program, won’t be opened until the year 2030– 50 years from now. Joseph Pokrzywka is chairman of the time capsule project.

Fifty years ago — 1970

The CCIAC high school football scoring champion for this season is Dunkirk’s Lonnie Kinsey. The junior halfback scored 64 points for the DHS Marauders, who finished the season as undefeated league champions for the second time in two years.
