Thirty years ago — 1990
Alumax management honored its employees for working one full year without a lost time accident or injury in its Dunkirk plant. Wayne Martin, Alumax general manager, stated that “overcoming this hurdle was one of the finest efforts of all Alumax employees.” According to personnel manager Vicki Westling, “Not only is one year without a lost time accident or injury almost unheard of in industry, it is a phenomenal improvement over the past several years.”
Forty years ago — 1980
The site of the former Cardinal Mindszenty High School football stadium in Dunkirk has been sold to the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, which is contiguous to the field. The 9.8-acre site was sold to Holy Trinity by the Diocese of Buffalo for $30,000. The parish has no immediate plans for the field, according to the Rev. Richard Amico, pastor.
Fifty years ago — 1970
The new YMCA building on Central Avenue near the Dunkirk-Fredonia line is nearly completed. Workmen will complete the interior during the winter months now that the building is virtually enclosed. It will be ready for use in March or April.
