Thirty years ago — 1990

The newly organized Sheridan Historical Society met recently and elected the following officers for the coming year: Tyler Cross, president; Julie Szumigala, vice president; Maureen R. Stafford, secretary/treasurer. The society is working on an oral history project, taping interviews with people about the local history, folklore and any other data relating to Sheridan and the vicinity.

Forty years ago — 1980

Peter Toth, the sculptor who has honored the American Indian with wood carvings in many states, has completed his 37th such carving in Idaho Falls, Idaho. His local sculpture of the sad Indian was dedicated Oct. 22, 1973 at Memorial Park in Dunkirk, just west of the water filtration plant.

Fifty years ago — 1970

“The Boys in the Band,” the production that brought four awards to the Dunkirk- Fredonia Community Players, is being presented this evening in Jamestown. The cast includes T.W. Gunther Jr., Robert Schuck, Peter Schuck, Nick Rizzo and R.J. Furdell.
