Thirty years ago — 1990

The naming of OBSERVER newswire editor Ron Gustafson as Outstanding Employee of the Year highlighted the Dunkirk Printing Co.’s recent Christmas party. Also honored and presented with a gift was Don Dragon, who will retire in January after 33 years of service in the press room.

Forty years ago — 1980

Lares Tresjan of South Roberts Road, Dunkirk is presently in New York City where she is being heard in concerts “on the street, in the Grand Central Terminal and at the Port Authority Bus Terminal.” She sings “rural” songs in Spanish and Portuguese with self accompaniment on the guitar. Lares told the OBSERVER that “no matter where I travel I always return to Dunkirk. I’ve been there 37 years picking tomatoes and grapes as seasonal work.”

Fifty years ago — 1970

Marilyn Pantano, a senior at Cardinal Mindszenty High School, is the Student of the Week.

Zenon Panfil has been elected president of the First Ward Falcon Club.
