Thirty years ago — 1990

It was recently announced that the Ron Budniewski family of 46 Market St. in Dunkirk were the winners in the first annual holiday decorating contest in Dunkirk. The winners were chosen from four finalists (one from each ward). Second place went to the Gostomski family at 46 Otter St.; third place to the Adamczak family, 825 Washington Ave.; and fourth place to the Zebracki family of 21 Lafayette St.

Forty years ago — 1980

Student of the Week is Steven Max Baker, 17, of West Main Road, Westfield. A senior at Westfield Academy and Central School, he is a member of the National Honor Society. Steven served as president of the junior class and was active in sports and the school musical. He was named the WACS representative to Boys State and was awarded the George Kent Memorial Math Award.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Windows have been installed at the high-rise apartment building on North Main Street, Dunkirk and work is now centered on the apartments themselves. Erected atop the elevator shaft of the 11-story building is a seven-foot Christmas tree with lights.
