Thirty years ago — 1991

Mr. Jerry Bertges recently presented a new 1991 Chevy S-10 pickup truck to Dan Salerno of the Lake Shore Street Rods Club. Mr. Salerno was the lucky winner of the truck given away at a national street rods meet in Michigan. No purchase was necessary to compete.

Forty years ago — 1981

Three promotions in the newsroom at the OBSERVER have been announced. H.K. “Mike” Williams IV has been named editorial page editor and will continue to serve as assistant to the publisher and vice president and secretary of the Dunkirk Printing Co. Keith Sheldon, who has been city editor, has been promoted to managing editor. Ted Lutz, who has been assistant city editor, is now the assistant managing editor.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Regularly 99 cents a dozen, doughnuts are 85 cents a dozen until Jan. 9 at Mister Donut at the D&F Plaza.
