Thirty years ago — 1991

Stephanie Hunt, Amanda Dorman and their second-grade classmates at Cassadaga Elementary School, recently made a mural for the U.S. military personnel in Saudi Arabia. Each of the girls has a family member stationed in the Persian Gulf — Stephanie’s sister, Angie, and Amanda’s uncle, Rick Brown.

Forty years ago — 1981

About 3,000 Buffalo Bills followers were on hand to greet their heroes in subzero temperatures as the team returned from San Diego after being eliminated from the playoffs by the Chargers, who advanced to the AFC Championship. The fans waited more than three hours in temperatures ranging between minus two and minus seven degrees. On Dec. 22, the Bills were welcomed home from San Francisco by 8,000 fans after capturing the AFC Eastern Division crown.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Piled high and wide are thousands of rose bushes ready for shipment to all parts of the Eastern United States from the A. Sam and Sons warehouse, West Lake Road, Dunkirk. The warehouse is said to be the largest single storehouse for the roses east of the Mississippi River.
