Thirty years ago — 1991

State Supreme Court Justice Joseph J. Ricotta of Dunkirk will retire from the bench at the end of 1991. Judge Ricotta turns 70 in May and under state law must retire by the end of the year. Although he could seek an extension of duty, he has no plans to do so. The judge, who is a Republican, will most likely be replaced by a Chautauqua County Democrat.

Forty years ago — 1981

Jill Conley of Silver Creek is the proud winner of an 8 h.p. Mariner Outboard Motor given away free by Mariner Motors at Stefan’s Recreation Inc. Grand Opening at 24 Lake Shore Drive West in Dunkirk. The Conleys will put the new Mariner to good use since they also have a new boat.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Bonnie Brown, a senior at Fredonia Central School, is the Student of the Week. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Brown of West Sheridan Drive.
