Thirty years ago — 1991

St. Alban’s Episcopal Church celebrated the kickoff of its 100th anniversary with a dinner in the undercroft in conjunction with the annual parish dinner and meeting. Senior Warden Jack Parker conducted the meeting during which the annual budget was presented, two vestry persons were elected and convention delegates and committee heads were appointed.

Forty years ago — 1981

Henry Huff Jr., education director for the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, asked the Silver Creek School Board to consider taking steps to make public school education more culturally relevant to Indian students. He indicated that Indian students are likely to feel alienated in public schools that are predominantly white and asked that Seneca language and culture classes be included in the curriculum.

Fifty years ago — 1971

It’s the end of an era in Cassadaga … the Ames era. After 50 years of service to the community, Clarence Ames has retired from “Ames Lunch,” his landmark business in the village.
