Fredonia State University College President Donald A. MacPhee has come up with a novel idea that is flourishing. Last fall, he asked incoming freshmen to single out a high school teacher who had a real impact on their educational experience. With the help of a computer and secretary, McPhee sent out 586 individualized letters of recognition, matching the names of students to their former teachers. The teachers, in return, have sent notes back to McPhee, conveying how flattered they were to receive such unique citations signed by a college president.
