Thirty years ago — 1991

Officials from Hampton Inns of Memphis, Tenn., said the Dunkirk area has been targeted for future development of a Hampton Inn. Dunkirk is one of about 450 communities across the nation the 245-hotel chain has set its sights on for development. Hampton Inn bills itself as the leading economy hotel chain in the country. Until now, these hotels have been built primarily in larger cities and their surrounding suburbs.

Forty years ago — 1981

Calendar Girl for the month of January is Susan Cummings, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Cummings, 17 Center St., Forestville. A senior at Forestville Central School, Susan has played volleyball, softball and basketball throughout her high school years. Susan is a member of the Student Council and Yearbook Staff. She plans to attend Jamestown Business College.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Michael A. Vandette Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael A. Vandette of Dunkirk, has joined Eastern Airlines as a flight officer.
