Thirty years ago — 1991

Cadet Joseph Krupa, son of Carole Urbanik Krupa of Centerville, Ohio, and grandson of Irene Urbanik, 4 Carole Ave., Fredonia and the late Joseph Urbanik, is a member of the Class of 1994 at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He is a 1989 graduate of Centerville High School and a 1990 graduate of the United States Military Academy Prep School. Cadet Krupa had an outstanding career as a high school athlete and is playing defensive lineman for Army football at West Point.

Forty years ago — 1981

The Dunkirk Civil Service Commission has certified a list containing 21 names of persons who passed the civil service examination for patrolman in the city of Dunkirk. Of the 35 people who took the test, 21 received a score of 70 or better to pass it. Ten Dunkirk residents and two women were among the test takers. One of the women is seventh on the list and the other is 19th.

Fifty years ago — 1971

The chairman of the science department at Dunkirk High School received notification this week that his book written for Spanish-speaking students of chemistry in Ecuador, will be published in early 1972. Guido Guayasamin, a teacher in this country for the past 15 years and a native of South America, is the author.
