Thirty years ago — 1991
Simon and Schuster Audio received two Grammy nominations in the Spoken Word category. One of them is for “Gracie: A Love Story,” read by George Burns for which Elisa Shokoff was the associate producer. She is the daughter of James and Ruth Shokoff of Fredonia. “Gracie: A Love Story,” was recorded documentary style in Mr. Burns’ living room and is a compilation of a series of informal interviews with him and vintage radio and television clips from The Burns & Allen Show.
Forty years ago — 1981
Murray Hose Co. No. 4 honored its 25- and 50-year members at their annual banquet. John Strychalski and James Valentine received 50-year plaques. Howard Taylor, Robert Kozlowski, William Kubera, Frank Kye, Ronald Madurski and Robert Odebralski were awarded 25-year memberships. “Fireman of the Year” was Larry Mazur.
Fifty years ago — 1971
Fredonia Chapter 430, Order of the Eastern Star, installed its new officers. They are: William Grimm, worthy patron; Dorothy Grimm, worthy matron; Ruth Mohney, associate matron; and Gerald Thies, associate patron.
