A front page photo shows Congressman Amo Houghton observing Dunkirk via bicycle. The congressman took advantage of the good weather to check out the area from his mountain bicycle. Rep. Houghton viewed the harborfront, city dock and went up Central Avenue to the D & F Plaza and Fredonia State University College.

Forty years ago — 1981

Eight seniors at Cassadaga Valley Central School have been named winner of New York State Regents Scholarships. They are Tina Marsh, Joyce Nietupski, Jill Swanson, Craig Davis, Rex Reissner, Tom Armstrong, Sanford Perry and Tracy Crossley.

Fifty years ago — 1971

All four Republican councilmen in the city of Dunkirk have given their nods of approval to the hiring of a fulltime personnel director for the city. The proposal was presented earlier this week by Mayor F. Neil Chaffie.
