Thirty years ago — 1991

Recent guests at the home of Bill and Patti Wells of Fredonia were Peter and Amanda Rickman and son Ashley of Marsden, Australia. It was the first trip to America for the Rickmans and also the first time the two families had met. Mrs. Wells and Mrs. Rickman have been penpals for two years, having been introduced through the International Pen Friends organization. The Wells hope to someday reciprocate with a trip to Australia.

Forty years ago — 1981

Wines from Chadwick Bay, Merritt Estate Wines and Woodbury Vineyards, three wineries in northern Chautauqua County, are among those featured in a public wine tasting this month at the World Trade Center in New York.

Fifty years ago – 1971

Alvin Macklem has retired after operating the Macklem Pharmacy, 29 East Main St., Fredonia since 1936. The store has been closed and the equipment is being sold.
