Thirty years ago — 1991

Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Ward of 5 Oak St., Silver Creek were in Albany recently to attend the 147th commencement of the State University of New York at Albany. Their son, Ensign Bruce G. Ward II, received his commission into the U.S. Navy and a degree in physics and their daughter-in-law, Jennifer, received her bachelor’s degree in history from the university.

Forty years ago — 1981

A dinner honoring the Rev. Richard J. Gill, pastor of St. Patrick’s Church in Brocton, was held recently at the John W. Dill American Legion Post 434. About 185 people attended the event celebrating Father Gill’s 25 years as a Roman Catholic priest. A Dunkirk native, he is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Gill. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 1956 in St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Buffalo.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Today marks the grand opening of the Hahn and Potter Co., 65 West Main St., Fredonia. Chris Hahn and Rod Potter have opened a combined gas station and garage.
