Thirty years ago — 1991

Bridget Henderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Henderson of Dunkirk, was recently crowned Miss Murray Hose Co. No. 4. She is representing the Dunkirk fire company at the Chautauqua County Gala Days queen contest. Bridget, a June graduate of Dunkirk High School, will continue her education at St. John Fisher College in the fall.

Forty years ago — 1981

The dispute over filling a coroner vacancy may be resolved soon. Three Democratic legislators — Charles Porpiglia, Chester Tarnowski and James Muscato, all of Dunkirk, and John Dillenburg of Forestville — have prefiled a resolution to name Thomas Colletti, a Dunkirk funeral director, to the post.

Fifty years ago — 1971

More than 6,000 American GIs got orders to leave Vietnam on July 1. It was the largest one-day withdrawal order since the pullout of American forces began.
