Thirty years ago — 1991
The Dunkirk wing of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is celebrating the organization’s 50th year of existence. The current Dunkirk wing of CAP began in 1983 and is made up of four groups: the Dunkirk Concord Squadron, Dunkirk Composite Squadron, Westfield Eagle Composite Squadron and the Harbor Flight Squadron.
Forty years ago — 1981
Vincent Martonis of Silver Creek, a well-known collector of Chautauqua County bottles, has arranged an exhibit of over 200 bottles, jars and jugs and related business advertisements and photographs at the Historical Museum of the D.R. Barker Library. Among the firms represented is Dr. J. Pettit’s Medicine Chest Co. The company’s eye salve, invented by the doctor before he moved to Fredonia in 1834, is still being made and marketed by a Cody, Wyo., firm.
Fifty years ago — 1971
Jill and Kimberly Privateer, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. George Privateer Jr., 88 Risley St., Fredonia are contestants in “The Little Miss Pageant,” being held this week in Ithaca.
