Thirty years ago — 1991

David Allen Lawton Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. David A. Lawton Sr. of Cassadaga has received a doctorate of medicine degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. He also was the recipient of the G. Norris Miner Memorial Award for demonstration of outstanding clinical competence in family medicine. A 1983 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School, Mr. Lawton earned his bachelor’s degree from Gannon University in 1987.

Forty years ago — 1981

The Rev. Frank J. Zuech has been named pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church, Sinclairville and the Rev. J. Patrick Keleher is the newly appointed Catholic minister at Fredonia State University College. Father Zuech is the former pastor of St. Anthony’s Church in Fredonia.

Fifty years ago — 1971

George Kohler, 12 Monroe St., Silver Creek, who was discharged from the U.S. Army on July 19, 1946, recently received a Conspicuous Service Cross. While he is puzzled why the government awarded him the service cross after all these years, he said he is proud to have been so honored.
