Thirty years ago — 1991

Three area residents were recent winners in New York State Lottery games. Sally Incitto of Fredonia was a $5,000 winner in the Win Four Game and purchased that winning ticket at U.S. News in Fredonia. Bernice Zielinski of Dunkirk won $700 with her Lucky 7 Game ticket which she bought at the Quality Inn Vineyard; and John Bubnack of Mayville received a $639 prize in the Cash 40 Game. He purchased his winning ticket at Lighthouse Point Grocery in Mayville.

Forty years ago — 1981

Miss Paula Shareno, 23-year-old daughter of Mrs. Mary Shareno of Main Street, Dunkirk and the late Richard Shareno, is one of four (and the only woman) crew members operating highlifts at the Warren (Pa.) landfill. A 1977 graduate of Dunkirk High School, Miss Shareno works and lives in Warren.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Margaret Smith and Marjorie McCaig, both members of the staff at St. Mary’s School in Dunkirk, have been named Leaders of Elementary Education for 1971. The two teachers were selected on the basis of their professional and civic achievements.
