Thirty years ago — 1991
Renee Carpenter, 18, a student at Gowanda Central School and the daughter of Marilyn Boland and Richard Carpenter, will compete this weekend in the 1992 Miss New York USA Pageant being held at the Taimiment Resort in the Poconos. The winner will represent the Empire state at the CBS-TV nationally televised Miss USA Pageant in February of 1992.
Forty years ago — 1981
Presented to an overflow, standing-room only crowd in 1979, the second Homemaker School Cooking Demonstration held this week was attended by an equally-overwhelming crowd. Some 1,100 area residents nearly filled Harry King Concert Hall in the Rockefeller Arts Center at SUNY Fredonia for the 1981 cooking demonstration and fashion show entitled, “Now You’re Cookin’,” sponsored by the OBSERVER and participating area merchants.
Fifty years ago — 1971
Debra Johnson, a senior at Brocton Central School, has been selected as the OBSERVER Student of the Week. Miss Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnson of Mill Street, is planning on a career in nursing following her graduation from Brocton Central School.
