Thirty years ago — 1991
A dedication ceremony at Creekside Park in Gowanda was held recently. The ceremony followed almost a decade of interest in the site and three years of labor. Regional state parks officials, Gowanda Village Board members and others involved in the project were in attendance.
Forty years ago — 1981
Miss Wendy Fox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Fox of R.D. 2, South Dayton has been selected as a finalist in the 1981 Miss Teen Western New York Pageant to be held Oct. 11 in Niagara Falls. Wendy is a student at Pine Valley Central School where she participates in color guard, softball and FHA. In her spare time, she enjoys hunting, biking, running, fishing, swimming, painting and drawing.
Fifty years ago — 1971
An arterial highway linking the Thruway with the main entrance to Fredonia State University College will be constructed by 1974 if voters approve the $2.5 billion state transportation bond issue in November. The highway, say officials in Albany, will be constructed between Central Avenue and Bennett Road, just south of Carol Avenue and north of Lowell Place in Fredonia.
